ANN ARBOR, Mich. - With only a few weeks until the until the historic event on New Year's Day, the National Hockey League says it will officially take over Michigan Stadium on Thursday with the arrival of the NHL Winter Classic Ice Truck, presented by York.
The 53-foot trailer, the world's largest mobile refrigeration unit, departed from Toronto on Tuesday to make the 273-mile journey to Ann Arbor, according to the NHL.

The ice truck houses state-of-the-art ice-making and ice-monitoring equipment used to create an NHL-caliber sheet of ice.
Don Renzulli, NHL Executive VP, Events, Dan Craig, NHL Senior Director, Facilities Operations, and Tomas Holmstrom, Detroit Red Wing Alumnus are expected to be at the event, which takes place at 12 p.m. at Michigan Stadium, outside Gate 1.
