The 25-year-old native of St. Thomas, Ontario was selected in the second round (41st overall) by the Red Wings in the 2006 entry draft.

Emmerton appeared in 71 games with Detroit in 2011-12 and in all 48 games during the lockout-shortened 2012-13 season.

This recall comes on the same day the team announced captain and center Henrik Zetterberg is expected to miss at least two weeks with a small herniated disc.

Moreover, Pavel Datsyuk remains out of the lineup with a concussion.

The Red Wings host the Philadelphia Flyers Wednesday night at Joe Louis Arena.
