Red Wings sign Gustav Nyquist to 4-year deal

DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings announced Friday the team has signed forward Gustav Nyquist to a four-year contract.

It's not confirmed how much he'll be getting paid under this contract or what the cap hit will be. However, according to Hockey Night in Canada's Elliotte Friedman the deal is for $19 million over the four years.

Nyquist is a 2008 Red Wings draft pick (121st overall) who has played just one full season with the team -- this past season. In 82 games he scored 27 goals and 27 assists. The season before he played 57 games with Detroit and scored 28 goals and 20 assists. He spent three seasons with the University of Maine's team and was with the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins since 2010.

He's been quiet the past two years in the playoffs, scoring just 1 goal and 1 assist in 11 games.

At 25 years old, Nyquist will be a big part of Detroit's future, whether he produces or not. He was a restricted free agent at the end of this past season and filed for salary arbitration to speed along his new contract signing with Detroit.
