Red Wings' top pick Dylan Larkin shines at WJC

DETROIT – Detroit Red Wings top draft pick Dylan Larkin (15th overall in 2014) had two goals and an assist Sunday in the United States' 6-0 win over Germany at the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship.

Larkin, 18, is a 6-foot, 190-pound center who is being groomed at the University of Michigan. The Waterford, Mich. native has 16 points (3G, 13A) in 15 games with the Wolverines in his freshman year. He's a playmaker with a +5 rating.

Larkin could be playing with the Grand Rapids Griffins as early as next year, but staying in college is never a bad choice, especially with the depth Detroit has at center right now.

The WJC provides invaluable experience for players such as Larkin. He gets to play at the highest level for his age group alongside some of the best American-born players.

It's a good sign for Michigan and the Red Wings.
