Report: Daniel Alfredsson's career 'likely done'

DETROIT – Daniel Alfredsson won't be returning to play for the Red Wings this season and his playing career likely is over, according to TSN's Dreger Report.

The 41-year-old forward was expected to make a decision before December, and according to the report he's already made it:

"Sources tell The Dreger Report that Alfredsson has decided not to play this season and while the Red Wings have been informed he is likely done, they have not heard directly from Alfredsson."

Alfredsson has not signed with the Red Wings. He missed training camp while bothered by a back injury which started to give him problems toward the end of last season.

He signed a 1-year deal with Detroit in the 2013 offseason after 17 seasons with the Ottawa Senators. Alfredsson led the Red Wings last season with 49 points (18G, 31A) in 68 games played.
