Plymouth Whalers beat Owen Sound Attack 5-0 in Game 5 of Western Semis

Whalers have 3-2 lead in Western Semis series with Owen Sound Attack

PLYMOUTH, Mich. – Stefan Noesen and Mitchell Heard scored two goals each and a solid Plymouth defense allowed just 19 shots as the Whalers defeated Owen Sound Attack, 5-0, on Friday in Game Five of the Ontario Hockey League's Western Conference Semi-Finals.

A good crowd of 3,302 at Compuware Arena saw Plymouth take a three-game-to-two lead in the series.

Game 6 will be played Sunday in Owen Sound at 4:05 pm (3:50 p.m., www.plymouthwhalers.com). If a seventh game is needed, it will be played on Tuesday at 7:05 pm at Compuware Arena.

Besides Noesen's pair (6-7 of the playoffs) and Heard's two goals (5-6), Tom Wilson scored his third goal of the playoffs and Alex Nedeljkovic recorded his first OHL playoff shutout in stopping all 19 Owen Sound shots.

After Noesen scored the game's opening goal at 6:41 of the first period, the Whalers effectively put the game away with a pair of goals 16 seconds apart later in the period to extend the lead to 3-0. Wilson scored on a deflection at 17:19 and Heard scored with a rising shot from the left circle at 17:35.

Noesen (1:33) and Heard (3:44) scored second period goals for Plymouth, who led 5-0 after forty minutes.

Plymouth outshot Owen Sound, 43-19.
