Zetterberg has back surgery, could miss rest of season

Red Wings captain to be re-evaluated in 8 weeks after successful back surgery

DETROIT – Detroit Red Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg underwent successful back surgery Friday and is expected to miss 8 weeks.

The team said Zetterberg will be re-evaluated after 8 weeks.

That would be the remainder of the regular season. The Red Wings' last game is April 13 in St. Louis, about 8 weeks from now.

The 33-year-old Swede was sidelined by back pain in Sochi after scoring a goal in the opening game. He had the surgery on Friday in New York.

He has missed 13 games with the Red Wings this season. He leads the team with 48 points (16 goals, 32 assists) and is a plus-19 rating in 45 games.
