Local little league team wins USSSA World Series

Ninety-two teams, with players ranging in age from 9-14, converged on Canton this weekend for the USSSA double-A World Series.

The champions? The 13U Michigan Lazers.

The team beat the Illinois Trojans 8-3 in the championship game.  

In tournament play, the 13U Michigan Lazers played the following teams:

Dearborn Heights Knights from Dearborn Heights, MI (Won 18-0) Stars Blue from Vienna, Virginia (Won 10-7) Downriver Hawks from Woodhaven, Michigan (3-0) Lake Villa Venom from Lake Villa, Illinois (6-4) Illinois Trojans from Lisle, Illinois (Lost 6-7 first game of finals) Illinois Trojans from Lisle, Illinois (Beat them in the finals 8-3 to win the championship)

Michigan Lazers' Logan King was named the over-all player of the tournament.

Michigan Lazers' Trevor McCasey was named defensive player of the tournament.
