Michigan football DL Maurice Hurst to return for 2017 season

Hurst made 31 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss this season

Michigan's 2017 defensive line got a little bit stronger Wednesday when defensive tackle Maurice Hurst announced he will return to school for his redshirt senior season.

"After considering leaving for the NFL draft this year, I am excited to announce that I am returning to the University of Michigan for my fifth year," Hurst tweeted.

The explosive defensive lineman played in 11 games during the regular season after missing the opener against Hawaii due to injury. He made 31 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks as a redshirt junior.

With starting tackles Ryan Glasgow and Matthew Godin graduating this off-season, Hurst is a leading candidate to start on the defensive line in 2017. Hurst will be surrounded by another talented group, including Rashan Gary, Bryan Mone and others.

In 32 career games, Hurst has made 69 tackles, 17 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks.
