Fans will need to pass metal detectors this season at Comerica Park

Detroit Tigers opening day is March 31

DETROIT – Fans may want to plan for some extra time when attending Detroit Tigers games this year.

Team spokesman Ron Colangelo told Local 4 metal detectors will be in place for Opening Day this year.

"This is part of a MLB league-wide initiative whereas all ballparks are required to have metal detectors in place. Several teams are in a position to implement this season. We'll be sharing more details as we get closer to March 31," Colangelo said.

The Detroit Tigers start their regular season on March 31 at Comerica Park against the Kansas City Royals.
