DETROIT - A night after one of the weakest offenses in the American League broke out against one of the league's top pitchers, the Chicago White Sox will try to continue that momentum when they resume a three-game road series against the Detroit Tigers.
Chicago roughed up Justin Verlander and racked up a season-high 23 hits in an 11-4 win in the opener, snapping a four-game skid. The loss was just the second in eight starts for the Tigers, who lead the AL Central by 2 1/2 games over Cleveland.
The teams combined for six home runs in the opener, including a pair by Chicago's Dayan Viciedo for his first career multi-homer game. Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera also went deep, giving him 29 home runs and 92 RBIs. The White Sox are looking for their first consecutive wins since June 21-22 at Kansas City and their first series win in Detroit since July 15-17, 2011.

PITCHING MATCHUP: White Sox RH Dylan Axelrod (3-5, 4.97 ERA) vs. Tigers RH Rick Porcello (5-6, 4.82)
Axelrod is winless in seven starts since May 26, and his last outing was ugly. He allowed five runs on nine hits - including two homers - and lasted only 1 2/3 innings in a loss at Tampa Bay. The long ball has been a major problem for Axelrod, who has allowed 10 home runs over his last five starts.
Porcello turned in one of his best efforts of the season last time out, tossing seven scoreless innings to win at Cleveland and end a three-start losing streak. It was his sixth quality start in his last eight outings. Porcello is 5-5 with a 4.96 ERA in 11 starts against the White Sox, and he won three of four meetings with them last year.
1. Tigers SS Jhonny Peralta is riding an eight-game hitting streak despite batting just .250 over that span.
2. White Sox RF Alex Rios, who tied a franchise record by going 6-for-6 Tuesday, is 6-for-28 with three homers against Porcello.
3. Tigers CF Austin Jackson is 4-for-5 with a double and a homer against Axelrod.
