Report: Tigers trade for Daniel Schlereth's 7.23 AAA earned run average

The Detroit Tigers Achilles heal, as in recent seasons, has been its bullpen this year. So it makes sense that they're looking for any option -- literally, any option -- to bolster the relief staff.

So, it appears the team has traded "future consideration" to the Pittsburgh Pirates for Daniel Schlereth, who previously pitched for the Tigers from 2010-2012, on Tuesday. During that stint, he went 4-2 with a 3.98 ERA in 73 games.

However, Schlereth hasn't made a big league roster since the Tigers placed him on the disabled list in April 2012. He pitched for Baltimore and Pittsburgh farm clubs in 2013 and 2014.

Schlereth is expected to be assigned to Toledo, where he'll hopefully improve on his 7.23 ERA this season for the AAA Indianapolis Indians.

If Schlereth's stats don't excite, at least the price was right. "Future considerations,"  according to Baseball Reference, "almost always mean that [a player's] contract was sold for an amount of cash too inconsequential to be worthy of mention."
