DETROIT - The Detroit Tigers say third basemen and slugger Miguel Cabrera has undergone successful surgery to repair a groin injury which, the teams says, limited him during the playoffs.
The team released this statement Tuesday morning:
"Miguel Cabrera underwent successful core muscle repair surgery this morning. The procedure was performed by Dr. Bill Meyers in Philadelphia. Cabrera will undergo physical rehabilitation for the next 6-8 weeks and is anticipated to be ready for Spring Training in the 2014 season."
Cabrera hit .348 with 44 home runs and 137 RBIs this season, but he was bothered for the last couple of months by a number of injuries. He batted .262 with two home runs in 11 postseason games. Detroit lost to Boston in the AL championship series.
