DETROIT - The Detroit Red Wings will add veteran right winger Daniel Alfredsson to the team's roster for the upcoming season.
Alfredsson, 40, has spent his entire career with the Eastern Conference's Ottawa Senators, a team the Red Wings will meet a lot more since they will be making the move to the East.
He has agreed to a one-year contract with the Wings. Details of the contract have not been released by the team.
The Senators allowed Alfredsson to become a free agent and the Red Wings wasted no time picking him up when free agency opened Friday.
He joins a Detroit team full of fellow Swedes.
Alfredsson played 47 games with the Senators during the shortened 2012-13 season, tallying 10 goals and 16 assists. He scored 4 goals and 6 assists in 10 playoff games.
