Red Wings forward Nyquist suspended six games for high stick

DETROIT – Detroit Red Wings forward Gustav Nyquist has been suspended six games for high-sticking against the Minnesota Wild on Sunday.

Nyquist received a 4-minute penalty for the infraction, after high-sticking Wild's Jared Spurgeon during Sunday's game.

The NHL announced the suspension Wednesday after a phone hearing earlier this afternoon.

The incident occurred at 14:13 of the first period. Nyquist was assessed a double-minor for high-sticking.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, Nyquist will forfeit $158,333.34. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

The Red Wings lost the game to Minnesota on Sunday, 6-3.
