TORONTO - Daniel Alfredsson and Pavel Datsyuk scored in the shootout for Detroit in the Red Wings' 5-4 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night in a Winter Classic preview.

The Red Wings had lost 11 straight shootouts, six this season.

Tomas Tatar scored for Detroit with 6:16 left in regulation to tie it at 4.

Datsyuk, Joakim Andersson and Tomas Jurco had first-period goals for the Red Wings.

David Clarkson, Dion Phaneuf, Joffrey Lupul and Cody Franson scored for Toronto. The Maple Leafs have lost six of their last eight games.

The teams will meet again in the Winter Classic at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor on Jan. 1
