Locals compete in Sochi Olympics

Karly Piper Shorr, Olympic snowboarder from Milford, Michigan, came in sixth place in the 2014 Winter Olympics Women's Snowboarding Slopestyle. Shorr's best score came on the second of her two runs, when she recorded a 75.00. She scored a 39.00 on her first run.

Shorr advanced to the finals on Sunday after competing in the qualification. She told Local 4 before she left she is more concerned about just being in the moment than on winning gold.

"I'm more excited just to be riding the course and competing with everyone else and having fun.  I mean I'm just going to do my best," said Shorr.

Slopestyle is one of 12 new events at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. In slopestyle, snowboarders are judged on the variety of tricks they do on rails, boxes and jumps.

Jilleanne Rookard, a speed skater from Wyandotte, Michigan, placed 10th in the Speed Skating Ladies' 3000m Sunday. Her final time was 4:10.02
