Karly advanced directly to finals during the Slopestyle qualifications Thursday. Slopestyle is a type of snowboarding.

Mo Shorr talked to Local 4 about the story Nightly News did on Karly Thursday during competition:

"NBC Nightly News did a story -- they happened to put a mic on me before Karly's contest even started -- I thought it was a bit strange because she was such an under dog and in a very stacked heat with Anna Gasser and Jamie Anderson in her heat! Then she did so good! They got lucky and happened upon a very emotional mom!

We could not be more excited! Medal round here we come!!!!! My phone is going off! My text messages are going crazy! Facebook and everything -- cant keep up!

Karly remains very focused and is looking forward to practice this morning and making a few technical changes and cleaning up her jumps section! The coaches have her in a great frame of mind and we are eager to see what she can do!

Also looking forward to the Opening Ceremony tonight! All so overwhelming and exciting to be here! Russia is beautiful and the people are so very helpful and kind! We are having such a positive experience here!

The Russians are eager to please and go out of their way with kindness! I just moved from a very nice, simple hotel in Adler to a family home where I'm renting a room up in the mountains. I'm experiencing Russia very much like how an average family lives! They have a large log home set up to host Olympic families of competitors! We are their first guests! They speak no English but our tour people have interpreters that we can call at anytime and they are also frequently here.

It has been an amazing trip so far! Can't wait for Opening Ceremonies and then on to medal round!

Go Team USA! Go Karly Piper Shorr! Dreams do come true!"
