Rob Parker: Change still coming at Ford Field

DETROIT – In honor of the late, great Joe Falls, it's a Fish Fry Friday.

Lions' fans have a right to be skeptical.

After all, the Fords still own the Lions and haven't exactly been any good at ownership for a long time now.

Most of the doubt is about making the right changes with management. For years, fans had to endure no changes. Despite drowning in a sea of losses, things mostly stayed the same.

On Thursday, the Lions hired a new team president. And they didn't look far to tab Rod Wood.

Wood, 55, will oversee the business side of the operation. For the past eight years, Wood worked closely for the Lions' organization and the Ford family in his role as president and CEO of Ford Estates.

Immediately, fans were groaning on social media and sports-talk radio that it is still, indeed, business as usual - that the Lions didn't spread the net and look all over the NFL to get the best team president available.

When your team has won one playoff game since 1957, fans have a right to question the decision-making process of the franchise.

But here, it's really about the general manager. It's the football person that will shape where this franchise goes, not the business side guy.

Yes, the Lions didn't make a splash with the hiring of a team president, but they really didn't have to.

Lions' owner Martha Ford made it clear that more is to come in order to turn this sad-sack team around. "I also believe Rod's appointment now gives us the ability to move more decisively with respect to our search for a general manager," Ford said.

Ford has already proven she is different from late husband. When she canned the president and GM a few week ago after an embarrassing  1-7 start.

Martha Ford appears as if she's not just going to sit around and do nothing. This time, you have to believe she will get help from the NFL and finally hire a good GM.

Lions change station

The Lions continue to make changes. This time on the radio side.

On Friday morning, they announced that their broadcasts will be heard on News/Talk 760 WJR, starting in 2016. It's a five-year deal.

Some might think it's a shocker that the Lions would leave FM powerhouse 97.1 FM The Ticket to return to AM radio. But it's not.

For a long time, the Lions have been unhappy with the sports-talk surrounding the team's games. The Lions didn't like a few of a show hosts and made it clear the 97.1 management.

Without question, it's a blow to The Ticket, a highly-rated station.

The Lions, apparently, are happy to be back home and away from the noise. They were broadcasted on WJR from 1948-1988.

Drummond's Star Bright

The Pistons are young and rebuilding. Sure, they have a shot at the playoffs for the first time since 2009. But by no means is it a finished product.

Still, many can see the future in center Andre Drummond and realize there's a star in the making. He's the cornerstone you need to build a franchise into a legitimate championship contender.

In the Pistons' 104-99 victory over the Cavs,  Drummond had 25 points and 18 rebounds. And through the first 11 games, Drummond is playing at a record pace.

Coming into the Pistons' game in Minnesota tonight, Drummond is averaging 19.1 points and 18.9 rebounds and has double-doubles in every game.

The Pistons are now 6-5. That's a good start, especially the fans remember last season's terrible start. The Pistons didn't get their sixth win until after Christmas.

On Tuesday night, fans saw the Pistons comeback from 13 points down in the second half to beat the best team in the East, Cleveland.

"It was a really good team, a good win," Van Gundy said. "What was really important to us is that we played a lot better.

"It was good to see our team play well. And when you play hard and well, you want to see them rewarded."

The crowd didn't go unnoticed by the Pistons. "We have the best fans," Drummond said. "They are loyal and stuck with us when we were down and now they are showing their appreciation."

Especially for Drummond's play.
