The Red Wings opened the scoring with a power play goal -- their first of the series -- just before the halfway point of the 1st period. Niklas Kronwall's shot from the point found its way past Tuukka Rask.
The Bruins' Brad Marchand had a chance to tie the game with about 5 minutes left in the 1st period. He was staring at an open net but Jonas Gustavsson somehow got the blade of his stick on the puck, deflecting it wide. Marchand later missed a wide open net.
The Red Wings outshot the Bruins 15-5 in the opening period.
The Red Wings made it 2-0 in the 2nd period on a nice play from Kronwall who found Datsyuk alone in front where he put it past a hopeless Rask.
But Torey Krug made it a one-goal game at 10:14 of the 2nd period. Todd Bertuzzi was in the box for interference, nullifying what would have been a Red Wings power play. Krug scored with just seconds left with the man advantage.
The Bruins started the 3rd period with bang when Milan Lucic scored at 1:15, tying the game at 2-2 and quieting the home crowd.
Overtime would be needed to decide this one. After three period, the Red Wings had the edge in shots, 34-28.
Justin Abdelkader had the game on his stick as he walked in on Rask just about a minute into the overtime period, but Rask turned him away.
Iginla finally put it away on a shot that may have hit a Red Wings defenseman on the way in.
The Bruins ended up having the edge in shots, 40-37, and outdid the Red Wings at the faceoff dot, too, 32-27.
NOTE: Gustavsson's start was a game-time announcement. Jimmy Howard was out with the flu.
