The Detroit Red Wings missed the playoffs but they didn't lose enough games to get one of the top NHL draft lottery positions.

While tanking for a better draft pick is not everyone's desire, the fact is sometimes losing pays -- just ask the Edmonton Oilers who grabbed Connor McDavid 1st overall in 2015. Of course, there is no McDavid in this year's draft.
