Red Wings' Justin Abdelkader suspended 2 games

Suspension came after Abdelkader's hit on Anaheim Duck defenseman Toni Lydman in Saturday's 4-0 loss

The Detroit Red Wings will be without forward Justin Abdelkader for the next two playoff games against the Anaheim Ducks.

The NHL issued Abdelkader a two-game suspension for his hit on Ducks defenseman Toni Lydman late in the second period of Saturday's 4-0 loss.

Abdelkader was issued a five-minute major penalty for charging, and a game misconduct for the hit.  The play was reviewed by NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan.

Lydman missed the rest of Saturday's game, and was checked for a concussion.  After the game, Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau said that Lydman was suffering from a "bad headache."

It's not the first suspension issued in the Stanley Cup playoffs this season.  Ottawa's Eric Gryba is serving a two-game suspension after a hit on Montreal's Lars Eller.

The Red Wings are behind in the series to Anaheim, 2-1.
