DETROIT – New Detroit Pistons head coach and team president Stan Van Gundy has made his first big hire.
The Pistons have named Jeff Bower the team's new general manager. Bower will have to leave his job as the head coach of Marist College.

"I'm pleased to welcome Jeff Bower to the Detroit Pistons organization," said Van Gundy in a news release. "Jeff brings great basketball knowledge and NBA experience to our organization and he's enjoyed success in building teams. He's a great evaluator of talent and Jeff will bring solid leadership to our front office."
Bower will be rejoining the NBA, where he spent seven years as GM of the New Orleans Pelicans.
He was third in Executive of the Year voting in 2008, and took New Orleans to the Western Conference semifinals. Bower played a part in drafting Chris Paul, David West and Darren Collison.
He was let go in 2011.
