DCFC beats Lansing United on PK, 1-0

DCFC beats new in-state foe in front of record crowd at Cass Tech

DETROIT – Coach Ben Pirmann's Detroit City FC team got their only goal of Friday night and the win with a PK in the 10th minute after Lansing United fouled in the box.

Captain Josh Rogers was chosen to take the shot; he slotted it right past United's keeper Zach Bennett and as a result tallied his first goal in his career with DCFC. In true captain form and love for his team and supporters, Josh ran straight to the Northern Guard and Le Rouge section to celebrate while kissing the crest on his jersey.

This Friday night game also was first time DCFC played against Lansing United, which was a highly anticipated match against head coach Eric Rudland and his newly formed team.

The bantering between DCFC's supporters, Northern Guard, and Lansing's supporters "Son of Ransom," started months prior to this matchup. Due to this demonstration of passion and loyalty for DCFC, DCFC's unbridled success, the growing following of Lansing United and the good team dynamics that Coach Rudland has put together, the game was sold out to capacity with a crowd of 3,112 for the first time in Cass Tech and DCFC's history. United's supporters group was small, but they showed up and were able to experience DCFC at their finest and the "little brother's" supporters -- as they are called by Northern Guard -- may grow one day. Either way, the talent and the love for the game is evident here in Michigan.

Bret Mollon, DCFC's goalie, chalked up another clean sheet for the match and the season to date in this win, showing that their defense is continually proven to be strong, successful and determined.

Cass Tech's girl's soccer team was honored at the half and their high school band put on an enjoyable performance. The fans were quiet and stayed in their seats to watch it all. It was a great way to go into the second half for DCFC.

Lansing incurred a red card in the 82nd minute of the second half and were a man down for the rest of the match. There were a few attempts in the second but all were either wide or stopped by Mollon, Rogers and the DCFC impenetrable defense.

Both coaches felt they scouted and prepared for this team diligently and each has familiarity with opposing players due to Coach Pirmann being at Michigan State and Coach Rudland's coaching experience with the Michigan Bucks and Madonna University.

The preparation was evident as the match, other than the PK, was a draw.
