Detroit City FC is one step closer to playoffs with 3-1 win over Fort Pitt

DCFC has strong finish to final regular season home game

DETROIT – The score at halftime was Fort Pitt Regiment 1 and Detroit City FC 0, but amid the "DC, FC" cross-stadium chant from the fans, DCFC came back in the 56th minute to tie up the game 1-1 with a goal by Latif Alashe.

City scored two more before the final whistle to win 3-1. Shawn Claude Lawson drilled one past the keeper in the 72nd minute. In the 91st minute T.J. VanSlooten headed a beauty into the net to secure the win.

DCFC has a must-win situation on Sunday at Michigan State University's DeMartin Stadium against Lansing United, who also won their Friday night game against Indiana Fire, 2-1. The special special field location for this game is due to the big crowd expected. This holds especially true after DCFC's record-breaking crowd Friday night of 3,398 people -- that's not including the up to 100 people who stood outside looking over and through the fences.

There will be a "World Cup Final Day" type of fever right here in Michigan with our own regular season final between the National Premiere Soccer League's top two teams in the Midwest Region. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children 12-and-under. Gates open at 11 a.m. and kickoff is at noon.
