The Detroit City FC has been around since 2012.
They are a minor league soccer team that plays in the National Premier Soccer League’s Midwest Great Lakes Conference. They played their home opener Saturday afternoon against the Cincinnati Saints at Cass Tech High School.
That's my response after attending what was my first Detroit City FC game. I've attended sporting events my entire life, and the atmosphere and fan interaction is unlike anything I have ever experienced.
It's 90 minutes of nonstop noise. DCFC fans, and especially The Northern Guard Supporters, are the ones responsible for this. They yell, chant, sing and dance throughout the entire match.
You will see these slogans everywhere:
"No one likes us ... we don't care!"
"Louder than our foes."
"City 'til I die."
I've said many times before that Detroit is the greatest sports city in the country, and the experience at a DCFC match is yet another reason why.
Do yourself a favor, head over to the Cass Tech football stadium and check out the DCFC in person. It's not only 90 minutes of nonstop noise, it's a nonstop Detroit party.
Detroit City FC's next game is Friday, May 16 against the Michigan Stars.
