Tigers acquire infielder Erick Aybar from Atlanta Braves

Mike Aviles, Kade Scivicque headed to Atlanta

DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers acquired infielder Erick Aybar from the Atlanta Braves Tuesday in exchange for utility man Mike Aviles and minor-league catcher Kade Scivicque.

Aybar, 32, is batting .242 with 27 runs scored, 14 doubles and two home runs in 97 games this season. He is hitting .313 with seven extra-base hits since the All-Star break.

Aviles, 35, was hitting .210 with seven extra-base hits in 68 games with the Tigers. Scivicque, 23, was hitting .282 with 19 doubles and six homers in 105 games with Single A Lakeland.

The Tigers recalled outfielder Steve Moya from Triple A Toledo before Tuesday night's game.

The move to acquire Aybar comes with the Tigers struggling, losers of six out of their last eight games. Two major pieces are missing from the left side of the infield as shortstop Jose Iglesias and third baseman Nick Castellanos sit on the 15-day disabled list.

Aybar, a versatile defender, can help fill the holes left by injuries.
