Detroit Tigers trade for Baltimore Orioles infielder Alex Gonzalez

Gonzalez, 37, has career .246 batting average

DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers have announced a trade with the Baltimore Orioles that will send shortstop Alex Gonzalez to Detroit in exchange for Steve Lombardozzi.

The Tigers, in need of a shortstop after the injury to Jose Iglesias, bring in the 15-year veteran Gonzalez to fill the need to infield defense.

Gonzalez has appeared in 12 games this spring for the Orioles and is batting .429 (12x28) with four runs scored, one double, two home runs and six RBI. He has compiled a .972 fielding percentage in 1539 career games at shortstop.

Last week, the Tigers also acquired shortstop Andrew Romine from the Angels.
