Detroit mustered just two runs on solo home runs Tuesday night as Torii Hunter hit a blast to left center in the first inning and Alex Avila went to straightaway center field in the fifth.

Cleveland knocked around Justin Verlander, recording five runs on 11 hits in six innings and tagging the 31-year-old with his third loss of the season.

23-year-old Trevor Bauer was strong for the Indians, holding the Tigers to just two runs in six innings for his first win of the season.

The Tigers hope that Scherzer can build off of a fantastic performance in Boston on Friday to end the nine-game road trip on a strong note. Scherzer held the Red Sox to just three hits in six scoreless innings.

The electric righty has a strong history against Cleveland, as only one of the starters in Wednesday's lineup boasts an average over .300 against him (Nick Swisher - .375). In 227 at-bats, the players on the Indians' roster hit just .229 with two home runs against Scherzer.

Cleveland will send out struggling right-hander Zach McAllister, who was shelled in each of his last two starts. Oakland chased the 26-year-old to the showers on Friday after recording just four outs and surrendering eight earned runs.

McAllister struggles greatly against Detroit, owning a 1-2 lifetime record against the Tigers and a .344 opponent's batting average against the current roster. Detroit twice beat McAllister last August by scoring five earned runs in less than four innings.

Detroit will return home for a four-game series against Texas on Thursday before heading out west for another road trip.
