Tony Scheffler has announced his retirement from the NFL.
Scheffler stated that he made the decision because he suffered three concussions in the past four years.
He was drafted by Denver in 2006 from Western Michigan and later went on to play for the Lions from 2010 until October of 2013, when the Lions decided to release him after his third concussion.
Over his eight-year career as a tight end, Scheffler had 258 receptions for 3,207 yards and 22 touchdowns.
Deadspin features a story written by Scheffler's former teammate, Nate Jackson, detailing one of the games Scheffler was concussed.
