Steve Yzerman returned to Joe Louis Arena on Sunday to watch the Tampa Bay Lightning take on the Detroit Red Wings.
Yzerman, who played for the Red Wings from 1983-2006, is now the general manager of the Lightning.
Yzerman served as Detroit’s captain for 20 seasons, the longest tenure for any captain in the history of the NHL.
After the game, Yzerman talked to the media about his decision to participate in the Alumni Showdown, his former teammates encouraging him to play and expectations fans should have leading up to the game.
The Alumni Showdown will take place on New Year’s Eve at Comerica Park in Detroit.
