DETROIT – Michigan hunters are heading into the woods looking to bag some big bucks.
Thousands of hunters in Michigan are expected to take part in this year's firearm deer hunting season.

In many cases, it's a family tradition. For some, it's a sport.
It also has a tremendous economic impact on the state.
During the season, 525,000 hunters are expected to participate in the firearms deer season, according to the Department of Natural Resources.
Hunters will spend $1.3 billion on hunting equipment, $2.3 billion on food and lodging and will stay in the field an average of seven days.
Deer season in Michigan also attracts hunters from throughout the country, boosting the state economy.
According to the DNR, the 2016 hunting season looks successful.
In September, the DNR released its 2016 Michigan Deer Hunting Prospects report. The report notes the mild winter last year offers hope that this year's deer hunting season will see improvements from 2015.
The firearm deer hunting season starts November 15 and ends November 30,
