DETROIT – Southbound I-275 between the I-96/I-696/M-5 interchange and 5 mile is opening this weekend after closing for a three-month construction project.
Entrances to the southbound lanes started opening Friday afternoon starting with the 8 Mile Road, 7 Mile Road and 6 Mile Road on-ramps, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.
Northbound I-275 will close on Tuesday at approximately 10 a.m., as crews begin the second half of the multi-million dollar highway repair project.
Traffic on northbound I-275 at the I-96/M-14 interchanged will be forced off and travelers are asked to find another route.
Both southbound and northbound lanes will remain open through the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
The $75 million dollar project will replace 88 miles of concrete pavement on I-275 from north of Five Mile Road to the I-96/I-696/M-5 interchange.
In addition to repairs on the main highway roads, the project will also include shoulder work on I-275, concrete repairs on I-696, and repairs on all ramps and 16 bridges.
The project will also focus on drainage improvements and intelligent transportation systems (ITS) work.
