Bridge Damage Keeps Stretch Of I-75 Closed For Days
Officials Advise I-75 Commuters To Use Alternate Route

Damage to an overpass on Interstate 75 in Detroit at Nevada Street Tuesday resulted in the closing of southbound I-75 between Seven Mile and McNichols.
A tractor-trailer hit a J.J. Curran Co. construction crane, which then struck the bridge, according to Local 4 reports.
The Michigan Department of Transportation ordered I-75 closed through the end of this week while repairs are being made.
Traffic on the southbound side of I-75 before the damaged overpass was at a standstill, while the northbound side of the freeway had major traffic delays. Motorists were seen exiting the on-ramp at Seven Mile Road, according to Sky 4 reports.
The driver of the tractor-trailer suffered injuries. He was listed in temporary serious condition at a local hospital. No other injuries were reported.
Commuters Should Seek Alternate Routes
As crews continue repairs on the overpass, traffic will be detoured around the freeway closure.
Traffic will be diverted from southbound Interstate 75 to westbound Eight Mile, then to the southbound Lodge. From the Lodge, traffic will then be directed onto eastbound Davison and back onto I-75, according to MDOT officials.
Authorities have urged motorists to seek other routes -- such as John R Road or Woodward Avenue -- until repairs are completed. Travelers routed around the area should plan extra time and expect some delays, especially during high-volume traffic periods.
Local 4 Traffic suggests exiting I-75 at Nine Mile Road, then driving to John R Road southbound, then onto McNichols (Six Mile Road) eastbound, which leads back to I-75.
Northbound I-75 will not affected by the closure.
