Drivers who frequent M-5 in Oakland County need to seek alternative routes soon.

The Michigan Department of Transportation is set to begin at $3.5 million project in late April or early May to repair the M-5 pavement between 12 Mile Road and Pontiac Trail. Work on the 3-mile stretch is expected to take at least 4 weeks.

The southbound side of M-5 will be under construction first. It will be closed between Maple Road and 12 Mile Road starting at the end of April or early May. Once the southbound work is completed, northbound M-5 will close between 12 Mile Road and Pontiac Trail for construction.

MDOT said all roads crossing M-5 will remain open with one lane open in each direction through  the intersections. The 12 Mile Road ramps to southbound M-5 will remain open while the southbound lanes are closed.

MDOT has a news conference scheduled for Monday morning Novi City Building Activities Room (45175 Ten Mile Road) to discuss and offer an overview of this project.
