WDIV-Local 4 debuts new set

DETROIT – WDIV-Local 4, the NBC affiliate in Detroit, unveiled its new set and refreshed logo recently.

Viewers were introduced to a clean, contemporary news set with large monitors that wrap around more than half the studio.

"We know that the biggest asset to Local 4 is our incredible talent. This set allows us to showcase our people in a beautiful environment," said Marla Drutz, Local 4's vice-president and general manager. "Our new studio set allows our team to modify the space for so many different production needs."

One of the highlights of the new set is an 80-inch interactive touchscreen system which is an innovative tool that helps bring stories to life. A 17-foot long, high resolution monitor wall also provides multiple opportunities for impactful storytelling.

In addition to the main news areas, the studio includes a multipurpose interview set and several flexible areas to use for its daily and weekend programming.

The set was designed by Local 4's design director, Jim Houff, with design consulting and fabrication by EWI Worldwide, a global live communications company based in Livonia, MI.

"Detroit has some of the most talented fabricators in the entire world. We were adamant about designing and building our set locally," said Jamie Kaye Walters, Local 4's creative services and programming director.

"This is an exciting investment for us," said Drutz. "Our set is a continuation of our commitment to Detroit and to providing the best in television news and programming."
