ROMULUS, Mich. – Travelers can't fly to New Orleans from Detroit Metro Airport and travel to some other destinations has been disrupted because of the storm.
Isaac has forced the cancellation of more than 1,000 flights nationwide.
Major airlines are offering passengers opportunities to reschedule and rebook their flights without fees.
United Airlines is offering a full refund whether or not a flight was canceled.
Passengers can rebook anytime within a year of a purchased ticket and avoid any change fee by rebooking this year.
Delta Airlines customers can change their flights without charge fees by Sept. 5. Some fare differences may apply, depending on on fare class.
Southwest Airlines is requiring passengers to rebook within 14 days of the original date of travel. No change fees will apply, but passengers may need to pay for a difference in fare.
The Thomas family was heading from Metro Airport to Disney World in Florida.
Michael Thomas said he had been watching the progress of the tropical storm.
"I've been watching the news and the Weather Channel and trying to map it out and trying to see if it was going to go inland," Thomas said.
The family was relieved when Isaac moved to the west. Michael Thomas said young Madison would be able to get to Florida to see Mickey Mouse.
"Madison got a call from Mickey Mouse last night and he said he was waiting to see her, so that let us know that the boat was floating," Thomas said.
While the Thomas family will make their trip a scheduled, airlines are using their websites to keep passengers updated on changes prompted by the arrival of Hurricane Isaac.
