Detroit – Snow and blustery winds blew in right on time for the first day of Winter. In fact, snow began falling early.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Detroit and Southeast Michigan until midnight, tonight.

According to the National Weather Service Forecast Office's 10:57am report, here are some running snow tallies:
- Croswell in Sanilac County - 3.0 in.
- Davison in Genesee County - 1.7 in.
- Flint in Genesee County - 1.4 in.
- Clarkston in Oakland County - 1.1 in.
- Howell in Livingston County - 1.0 in.
- Richmond in Macomb County - 1.0 in.
At least an additional inch will fall in many spots before Friday is done. With temperatures consistently near or below freezing, any untreated streets, sidewalks or other paved surfaces will become icy or slushy making driving or walking more difficult.
In addition, the wind will be screaming out of the northwest at 20 to 30 mph sustained with greater gusts near 50 mph. This may bring down trees, branches and wires. Drivers must treat intersections without working traffic lights as 4-way stops. Anyone coming across downed wires should stay as far away from them as possible and call the power company or proper authorities.
High winds will drop Detroit Area wind chills into the teens all day and into the single digits tonight. Families venturing out need to dress in layers.
