Thick fog in parts of Michigan's Lower Peninsula slows down drivers, prompts weather warnings

Thick fog in parts of metro Detroit slowed down drivers Monday morning and prompted warnings from weather officials.

The fog early reduced visibility in some places to less than a quarter mile, prompting motorists to cut their speeds because of low visibility.

The fog was expected to dissipate by midday. The National Weather Service says motorists should slow down, use low headlight beams and allow more time for travel.

Forecasters say the fog could return on other mornings this week.

Christy Boitnot and Lindsay Greschak were on their way home from work Monday morning when they stopped at National Coney Island in Roseville to try and wait out the fog.

"You couldn't even see one foot in front of you, It was pretty bad," said Boitnot.
