Air Quality Alert for Metro Detroit Tuesday

Try to ride a bike instead of driving Tuesday

DETROIT – Most of SE Michigan is under an Air Quality Alert Tuesday during the peak heating hours.

That means sunshine, heat, and pollutants will combine to create a chemical reaction called ozone which makes it hard to breath for some. So try to avoid using gas powered lawn equipment, and ride your bike if possible.

Highs will hit mid to upper 80s with a bit more humidity Tuesday.

The winds will be bringing in warm air all day SW 5-15 mph. Lows overnight will drop into the upper 60s.

We anticipate that the Air Quality Alert (Ozone Action Day) will be extended into Wednesday as well.

Highs will be in the upper 80s with muggy air and plenty of sunshine making it tough going on many for a couple of days in a row. Expect highs around 87 degrees feeling more like 90 and mostly sunny skies turning partly cloudy.

Some relief is on the way for Thursday.

A cold front moving through will bring a couple of shots for rain. The first will be early in the morning. And more rain and thunder is likely into the afternoon hours. Highs will drop a bit closer to  80 or 82 degrees and cooler air behind that.
