Another nice day with changes coming

Cold front approaching

DETROIT – No two cold fronts are alike.  Some bring rain and colder temperatures, others bring rain but not much of a temperature change, and others bring a big temperature change but little or no precipitation.

Today's cold front, which should cross the area during the late afternoon / early evening period is the latter of the choices due to there being very little low level moisture associated with it.

Ahead of the front, where we'll be most of the day, skies will be mostly sunny and temperatures will be nice and warm, with highs reaching the mid 70s (23° Celsius for our Canadian neighbors).

Some cloud cover should encroach upon the area by mid to late afternoon, and there's only the slight chance for a few isolated showers…most of us should remain dry.

We really need some rain, as it's been very dry this fall, but we won't see much with this front.  Wind will increase from the southwest ahead of the front, reaching 15 to 20 mph.

Today's sunrise is at 7:42 AM, and today's sunset is at 6:57 PM.

Skies clear out for a while this evening behind the cold front, then become partly cloudy later on at night, with lows in the mid to upper 40s (8° Celsius).  West-southwest wind at 10 to 15 mph.

Even if we start the day on Tuesday with partial sunshine, I've seen this type of weather situation many times in the past, and I think we'll become mostly cloudy during the day.  It's going to be noticeably cooler, with highs only in the mid to upper 50s (14° Celsius).

Becoming mostly clear later Tuesday night, with lows in the low 40s (5° Celsius).

Mostly sunny to partly cloudy on Wednesday, with highs back into the low 60s (16° Celsius).

Mostly clear Wednesday night, with lows in the mid 40s (7° Celsius).

Becoming partly sunny on Thursday with a shower possible very late in the day (most, if not all, of the daylight hours should be dry).  Highs in the mid 60s (17° Celsius).

Showers are possible Thursday night but, again, we won't see nearly enough rainfall to make a dent in our very dry soil conditions).  Lows in the mid 40s (7° Celsius).

Mostly cloudy, breezy and cooler on Friday, with a few showers possible.  Highs back down into the mid to upper 50s (14° Celsius).

Becoming mostly clear Friday night, with lows in the…eek!...mid to upper 30s (2° Celsius).  Right now, I think frost is a pretty remote possibility Friday and Saturday night, but I'll keep a very close eye on this update you through the week.

Saturday is THE game, with Michigan hosting Michigan State in Ann Arbor.  Right now it looks like a pretty good football day, with Maize Sun and Blue Sky on a Green field (see…I got all of the colors in), and highs in the low to mid 50s (12° Celsius).  It'll cool off quickly during the second half…we'll probably finish the game in the 40s…so even though the sun may feel good, make sure you dress appropriately…especially since it could be a little breezy (not overtly windy, just a little breezy).

Mostly clear Saturday night, with lows again in the mid to upper 30s (2° Celsius).

It'll be a little chilly for the start of the Free Press / Talmer Bank Marathon early Sunday morning, but wind appears to be light and, once the sun rises, you'll see and feel the sun.  Highs Sunday in the mid 50s (13° Celsius).
