DETROIT – 
A flood watch is in effect through Wednesday morning in the Metro Detroit area.
Overnight showers and thunderstorms, combined with melting snow and a frozen ground that cannot absorb any water will create significant standing water and runoff. River levels may rise, and lower elevation areas that typically collect water will flood.

Wednesday will be windy with morning showers, and the day beginning mild with temperatures well into the 50s. A very strong cold front will cross the area by early afternoon, and rain showers may change to some snow showers but, more notably, the temperature will start dropping sharply.

The end of the day will be much colder than the morning (temps falling through the 40s), so dress appropriately when you head out to work in the morning or send the kids off to school. Winds could gust over 30 mph, especially around the time the cold front passes through.
Temperatures will drop well below freezing Wednesday night, so standing water will freeze into an icy mess. Our only hope is that the windy conditions evaporate most of the water off the roads and our driveways and sidewalks before that water freezes. Be careful and watch for ice when you head out Thursday morning.

The extended forecast calls for seasonably cold temperatures and chances for light snow, although we'll need to keep our eye on a potential Alberta Clipper type of storm on Monday...this could give us a snow that we'll have to shovel and plow.
