Christmas storm approaching

Wind and rain will increase today

DETROIT – Everything right now appears to be coming together as expected with our Christmas storm. Rain showers will prevail today, and become a steadier rain later today. The wind shouldn't be too bad for most of the daylight hours, but should start increasing this evening. Generally, though, we'll see a 10-15 mph wind overall during the day. Highs will vary considerably across the area: those of you on the eastside of our area could see highs reach the low 50s, while those of you to the west (especially west of US-23) may only see steady temperatures in the mid 40s.

Rain will continue this evening, and wind will increase dramatically to between 25 and 35 mph, with potential gusts to 45 mph. Accordingly, the National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory that will continue through the night for all but Livingston and Genesee Counties. After 10pm, rain will start mixing with wet snow in our far western suburbs, and this trend will gradually extend eastward. Most areas will probably see about three or four hours of wet snow, but the wet ground and above freezing temperatures mean we'll see little or no accumulation. Lows around 33 degrees.

We'll wake up to clouds and wind on Christmas morning, but wind will decrease through the day and skies will become partly cloudy. Highs in the upper 30s.

Partly cloudy Thursday night, with lows in the low 30s.

Partly cloudy on Friday, with highs in the mid 40s.

Increasing clouds Friday night, with a possible rain or snow shower late at night. Lows in the mid 30s.

A chance of rain showers on Saturday, with highs in the low to mid 40s. It'll become breezy, too.

Becoming partly cloudy Saturday night, with lows in the upper 20s.

Then partly cloudy on Sunday, with highs in the low 30s.

Mostly cloudy on Monday, with highs near 30.

Breezy with a chance of snow showers on Tuesday, with highs in the upper 20s.
