Clouds and sun with higher temps Saturday

Highs in the upper 30s.

DETROIT – The 2015 North American International Auto Show is open to all this Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Weekend, and fantastic weather his hear. Saturday will have sunshine. Sunday will have snowflakes, but they will be on and off.

Before the Auto Show doors open, temperatures will be in the teens under partly to mostly cloudy skies. Emerging sunshine and south-southwesterly winds will boost temperatures closer to freezing by lunchtime. Before coming to Cobo, families can dress with one or two extra layers to stay warm outdoors.

Temperatures will rise way above freezing Saturday afternoon. In fact, it will be the first time Motown makes it above 32 degrees in a dozen days. Highs will be in the middle and upper 30s with partly sunny skies.

Saturday night is a huge sports night in Southeast Michigan. The Red Wings take on the Nashville Predators at Joe Louis Arena at 7pm ET, and the Pistons battle the Philadelphia 76ers at The Palace Of Auburn Hills at 7:30pm ET.

Basketball and hockey fans will have mostly dry conditions driving to both venues Saturday evening. Melting snow and ice will make ramps, parking lots and sidewalks wet, slick and messy. Temperatures will be in the middle 30s.

The ride home Saturday night may be a bit trickier because clouds will lower, thicken and produce a few flurries and scattered snow showers. The chance of precipitation is greater closer to midnight, and there is a chance raindrops will mix with some snowflakes in the beginning. Overnight lows will fall closer to freezing.

Sunday morning will be colder with snow showers on and off for families going to and from services. Sunday afternoon will remain slippery but not impossible. Highs will be in the middle 30s with on and off snow showers.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is Monday, and it will be colder with temps in the 20s. On the bright side, literally, sunshine returns for families going to and from ceremonies and volunteer work.
