Cold returns with snow showers

Snow showers will increase by late afternoon with some areas picking up around an inch overnight

DETROIT – Light snow showers are possible during the day today, but with no accumulation.  Snow showers will increase by late afternoon, and especially this evening, with some areas picking up around an inch overnight.  Temperatures will be nearly steady in the mid to upper 20s today, with lows tonight falling to near ten degrees.

Any lingering early morning snow showers tomorrow will end early, with skies eventually becoming mostly sunny.  Highs will be only in the upper teens.  Christmas Eve will be cold, but dry.  Then some light snow develops on Christmas Day!  Don't worry…this won't be a major storm…just enough snow to make the day festive, with highs rebounding into the mid-20s.

Hundreds of thousands of Michigan homes and businesses remain without power following a weekend ice storm. The wintry blast knocked out electrical service to at about 435,000 customers across the state. Michigan's largest utilities say it will be days before most of those blacked out get their power back because of the difficulty of working around ice-broken lines. Consumers Energy says 262,000 of its power customers were affected, and 201,000 remained off line early Monday. At 6 a.m. DTE Energy said work is underway to restore service to 83,000 blacked-out customers out of about 138,000 affected since the storms hit.
