Cool, sunny start to Sunday

DETROIT – Holiday shoppers can enjoy sunshine for the next day and a half. There will be only a brief period of slipperiness early this week, then good shopping and car wash weather during the middle and end of the week.

Sunday morning will be bright but cold with temperatures in the 20s. Even with a 5 to 10 mph wind, wind chills will dip into the teens. Families going to services and Detroit Lions tailgaters will need to dress in layers to stay warm outdoors.

Sunday afternoon will be sunny and chilly. Today's average high is 39 degrees. Despite blue skies, temperatures will barely reach this mark with a northeast wind 5 to 10 mph. The weather is good for washing the car, hanging holiday decorations or ice skating. The Detroit Lions play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Ford Field. After the game, fans will need their sunglasses while driving home.

Sunday evening will be fair and cold with temperatures in the low 30s.

Sunday night will be mostly clear as temperatures fall to the middle and upper 20s.

Monday will begin with mostly sunny skies. A southerly wind will drive temperatures closer to 40 degrees in the afternoon, but the next low pressure system will bring cloudier skies in the afternoon and light rain for the afternoon rush hours. After nightfall, some snow flakes will mix with the rain drops.

Lingering snow showers will persist on Tuesday with temperatures between 30 and 35 degrees all day. Sunnier skies return Wednesday and beyond. Wednesday and Thursday will have daytime temps in the low and middle 30s. Friday and Saturday will be closer to 40 degree, again.
