Cold with snow showers Friday evening

Highs near 25, wind chills in teens

DETROIT – Friday afternoon and evening are filled with snow squalls ahead of a polar blast. For Valentines' Day Weekend, Mother Nature is providing weather for couple to stay warm.

Detroit and Southeast Michigan take the polar plunge Friday night and this weekend.

Friday afternoon and evening have snow squalls creating white-out conditions and slippery pavement for drivers and pedestrians. Temps are in the middle 20s, but wind chills are in the teens. Detroiters must bundle up and travel carefully to stay warm and safe.

Friday evening will be colder with scattered snow. Families coming downtown to the Meridian Winter Blast must remember to dress in layers and cover extremities while sliding down the snow slide, ice skating or walking. Fortunately, Campus Martius will be filled with warming tents containing plenty of food and hot beverages to warm your bones.

A Wind Chill Advisory will be in effect for Lapeer, Sanilac and St. Clair Counties from 10pm ET, Friday, to 11am ET, Saturday. Wind chills will be below zero across the region overnight and fall as low as -15° or lower in neighborhoods surrounding Detroit. Low temperatures will be between 1 and 6°F.

Saturday will be partly sunny and frigid with morning flurries. Afternoon temps will be near 15°F with wind chills near or just above zero most of the time.

Families must be careful with space heaters, again, Saturday night. Lows will be near or below zero with much lower wind chills. Remember to keep pets indoors, too.

Happy Valentines' Day, Sunday! The Arctic blast remains over the region. It will be mostly sunny, but highs will be in the middle teens with wind chills near zero all afternoon.

Higher, more seasonable temps return Monday and Tuesday, but snow showers arrive, too. Highs will be in the low 30s those two days with slick conditions and streets and sidewalks.
