Cool afternoon with showers

Highs in the low 50s

DETROIT – Saturday morning will have gray skies over Detroit and Southeast Michigan. It will be chilly with temps in the low and middle 40s. The kids will need to run around the field for little league soccer in extra socks and extra layers to stay warm.

Saturday afternoon will remain cloudy with light and moderate rain showers developing and cruising afternoon college football games. Students, alumni and fans going to the Wolverines game in Ann Arbor or the Spartans game in East Lansing will need to dress with multiple layers and a poncho to stay warm and dry. It will be chilly and feel like late November or early December with highs in the low 50s.

Saturday evening will have lingering rain as temps fall back into the 40s. Drivers need to be extremely careful while stopping because water and wet leaves make the pavement slipperier than normal.

Showers will diminish Saturday night, and skies will become partly cloudy. Temperatures will fall into the 30s by Sunday morning.

The start of the Detroit Free Press Marathon will be cold for runners, supporters and volunteers. When the starting pistol fires, temps will be near 39 degrees. Thermometers will read 50 degrees or so by midday and the end of the race. Sunday afternoon will be cooler than average but partly sunny with highs in the middle 50s.

Rain and even lower temperatures prevail next week. Monday will be in the 50s with a chance of wet conditions. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will be particularly blustery with highs only in the 40s and lows in the middle and low 30s.
