Forecast: Scattered light rain Friday night in metro Detroit

DETROIT – TGIF!  Expect a mostly cloudy day, with some light rain possibly moving into Lenawee and Monroe Counties around dinnertime.

Highs in the mid to upper 30s.  Light southeast wind.

Tonight is where the forecast gets tricky.  Scattered light rain will affect areas mainly well south of 8 Mile.  The problem is temperature, which should drop close to freezing during the overnight hours.

Right now, it appears that most areas getting rain will stay barely above freezing, which diminishes the chance for any freezing rain.  At this point, I'm not expecting any significant problems.  However, this is a close call so, if you'll be out between midnight and dawn tonight, be careful…especially on bridges and overpasses.

Saturday morning will start cloudy.  Approaching high pressure bringing drier air with it will try to scour out those clouds, but will be fighting the moist northeast wind off of Lake Huron.

Hopefully, the dry air wins out and we see some sunshine develop during the afternoon.  It's going to be a breezy day, with highs in the upper 30s, so dress warm if you'll be out doing some holiday shopping, or perhaps visiting Holly Days in downtown Farmington!  Mostly clear Saturday night, with lows in the mid 20s.

Mostly sunny on Sunday…a great day for Lions tailgating or holiday shopping…with highs in the mid 30s.  Mostly clear Sunday night, with lows in the mid to upper 20s.

Monday's weather is also a little tricky, but there's nothing to worry about since the approaching weather system is very weak.

Even if we manage to start with some sunshine, clouds will increase and there's the chance for widely scattered light rain or snow showers either late Monday afternoon or Monday evening.

At this point, I really don't expect to see much precipitation out of this.  Highs in the upper 30s.  There's still the chance for a few light snow showers Monday night, with lows in the upper 20s.

Partly cloudy, breezy and chilly on Tuesday, with highs in the mid 30s.  Becoming mostly clear Tuesday night, with lows in the mid 20s.

Partly cloudy on Wednesday, with highs in the upper 30s.  Partly cloudy Wednesday night, with lows in the mid to upper 20s.

Partly cloudy on Thursday, with highs near 40…perhaps even into the low 40s.
