Finally, some sun in Metro Detroit

What about the holiday weekend?

DETROIT – After many of us received an inch or more of total rain this past weekend, the sunshine sure looked and felt great this afternoon, although the brisk breezes didn’t help matters any.  Skies will become partly to mostly cloudy overnight, with just a very small chance for a light shower across our farthest west and north suburbs.  Most of us should have a dry night, with lows in the mid 50s (12 degrees Celsius).  Light wind becoming south.

Mostly cloudy on Tuesday, with a mainly afternoon shower chance for our western and northern suburbs.  Like Monday night, most of us will likely miss out on this shower activity.  Highs in the mid 70s (23 degrees Celsius).  South to southeast wind at 5 to 9 mph.

Weather Radio Campaign Day

Don’t forget that Tuesday is our second Weather Radio Campaign Day of the season. This time, we’ll be at the Meijer store on Mound Road in Warren.

Brandon will be there broadcasting his noon newscast live, as will Ben at 4, 5, and 6. Come on out and meet the team, and buy a weather radio that you can have programmed for you on the spot. Since we started this program about seven years ago, over 40,000 radios have been purchased as part of our campaign, which allows you to buy the radio at a significantly discounted Local 4 price.

One big misunderstanding that people have is that you don’t have to come just to the Warren Meijer store to buy your radio, and it doesn’t have to be Tuesday, either. These radios are available at ALL southeast Michigan Meijer stores at the discounted price through mid-summer.

But if you want to meet the Local4Casters, you need to come to the Warren store between 11:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Hope to see you there, and who knows, you might end up being on TV! One final reminder: these radios make great Father’s Day gifts, or gifts for your children or grandchildren.

Plus, if you have a place up north, you should get one for up there, and have it programmed for your up north county (remember that a tornado has struck EVERY county in Michigan at least once since 1950). And special note to all PTA moms and dads: this is a great way to upgrade your kids’ school’s weather radio and save some money in the process.

Future forecast

Mostly cloudy Tuesday night with a small shower chance.  Lows in the mid 50s (13 degrees Celsius).

Wednesday could potentially start mostly dry for us, but rain will increase by mid to late afternoon.  Highs in the upper 60s (20 degrees Celsius).

Rain is likely Wednesday night, with lows in the mid 50s (13 degrees Celsius).

Rain tapers to light showers on Thursday, with highs in the mid 60s (19 degrees Celsius).

Mostly cloudy Thursday night, with lows in the mid 50s (12 degrees Celsius).

Partly sunny and much warmer on Friday, with highs in the mid 70s (24 degrees Celsius).

Memorial Day weekend

The holiday weekend pattern is somewhat uncertain but, based upon this afternoon’s computer models, it appears that Saturday could be our best of the three days, with partly cloudy skies, and highs in the upper 70s (26 degrees Celsius).

Rain is likely on Sunday, with highs in the mid 70s (24 degrees Celsius).

Monday is really up in the air, but I have to at least mention the chance for scattered, light showers, with highs in the low to mid 70s (23 degrees Celsius).

Remember that I’m a professional when it comes to weekends…and especially holiday weekends…so I’ll keep a close eye on things and update you through the week.

All I can say now, however, is that it had better not rain Monday morning, as I’ll once again co-emcee the Farmington Memorial Day Parade, riding down Grand River avenue in the lead car. As vocal as people are every year thanking me for the sunshine, I can’t even imagine the heckling if it rains!
